Violinist Yuri Cho, accompanied by pianist Michael Tan, will perform at the Kennedy Center¡¯s Terrace Theatre on Saturday May 3, 2008 in a free concert sponsored in part by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea. The program begins at 7:30 p.m. and includes works by Elgar, de Falla, Stravinsky, and Gershwin.

A World Class Performer
Cho, a graduate of the Yehudi Menuhin School, The Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and the prestigious Eastman School of Music in New York state, is the recipient of many honors, including first prize in the Hankook Violin Comeptition, winner in both the Louis Peskai Competition at the Guildhall School and the Redhill Symphony Orchestra Competition, and is a recipient of the Eastman School¡¯s Performer¡¯s Certificate. In her promising career she has played New York¡¯s Carnegie Hall and Buckingham Palace.
She studied violin under the legendary Yehudi Menuhin, as well as David Takeno and Zvi Zeitlin, and has performed as a soloist with the Seoul Royal Orchestra, the Eastman Symphony Orchestra, and the Yehudi Menuhin Chamber Orchestra across Europe Asia, and the United States. Cho is also cofounder of the Yunicaa String Quartet at the Guildhall School.
The Kennedy Center program includes Edward Elgar¡¯s Sonata for violin and piano in E minor, Op. 82, 1918, Igor Stravinsky¡¯s Suite Italienne (after Pulcinella, as transcribed with Samuel Dushkin), Manuel de Falla¡¯s Suite populaire espagnole (arranged by Paul Kochanski), and George Gershwin¡¯s 3 preludes (as transcribed by Jascha Heifetz for violin and piano).
