Instructor Kwon Moo Seok, known as the founder of traditional Korean archery, the 23rd intangible Cultural Heritage item, will deliver the Korean Archery Seminar at the KORUS House March 26 and 27. The seminar details the character of Korean archery: the distinction between Korean and American archery, Korean archery as a health sport, and the full drawing posture for beginners.
On Saturday, March 29, Mr. Kwon will perform a live demonstration with audience participation at the Bull Run Shooting Center in Centreville, VA during which participants will have the opportunity to practice using traditional Korean bows following a brief instruction session.
In addition to the seminars and demonstration, an exhibition of Korean tradition archery will also be on display at KORUS House¡¯s second floor exhibition hall for 3 months starting March 26 (Wednesday). This special exhibition will includes traditional Korean bows over 400 years old, an array of multi-use arrows, and quivers hand-made by master Kwon. Following the opening events, Master Kwon will conduct archery training events and sessions in the Washington D.C. area through June. "Korean Archery represents a combination of sport and manners, and its tradition will be a highlight for all foreigners," master Kwon says.
Kwon Moo-Seok was born in Kyung-Bok, Ye Cheon, home of the traditional Korean bow. He served since 1988 as archery master for the National Police Association and has taught at the Korean Military Academy since 1992. Currently, Mr. Kwon is devoted to promoting traditional Korean archery throughout the world.
